Rene Matthyssen.

Smooth and stylish rider from Hawaii. I think he sort of vanished after the New Deal got rid of their pro team in the mid 1990s. I'm pretty sure that Rene is still doing skateboard related stuff back on the island.

Chris Ortiz was the photographer.

Good looking out, nice post!

Hawaii represented doubly hard in Children Of The Sun no doubt.

Rene had the killer ender part but don't forget about Rob Carlyon with the banging first part.
Hoping to see a post for him as well.

And yeah, they're homies and yeah I am unabashedly biased.

Keep up the good work here though.

I'll see what I can do about getting a Rob Carlyon post on here. Rene has been a little neglected online and I want to have more of him sooner or later. Only the pros - Hendrix, Knigge, Montesi, Matthyssen, Duren and Richter had ads for the Deal in 1994. They kept rotating a different pro from month to month. Knigge had three.

Rob ripped, but I hated the song that was used for his part so I would always fast forward it. Sorry.

Right on for the response.

Yeah I feel you on that Rob song, it wasn't the greatest but I think Steve Douglas chose it for him and that was that, can't really argue with a soccer hooligan ya know?

Oh yeah in case you're wondering Rene is busy running a popular hat store/boutique type shop called FITTED out here and he still gets his shred on every now and then.
Check out his site when you have time:

Peace!

A Giant dist. demo rolled through my hometown back in, I guess, 1996. Reese Forbes, Devera, SJ, Carlyon. Pretty sick!
